Monasteries in Patras

HOLY MONASTERY ΟF GIROKOMIO

The male monastery of Girokomio, which was founded in 1204, is beautifully situated on a pine-clad hill five kilometres east of Patras. An icon of the Holy Virgin which was made in the 16th c. as well as valuable documents can be seen in the monastery. The scenery around the monastery is very picturesque and lends itself to pleasant walks.

The famous female monastery of the Prophet Elias is built at the foot of the hill of Girokomio.
